Peter Justin Weber passed away on December 11, 2025 at the age of 84. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, known for his kindness, intelligence, and love for the sea. Peter was a man who valued family above all else, and his legacy will continue to live on through his loved ones and those who knew him.
Peter was born December 2, 1941 and grew up in
Mountain Lakes, NJ. His life was marked by a love for knowledge and adventure. He graduated from Williams College in 1963, where he studied English and German and was a member of the swim team. He then spent a year studying in Tubingen, Germany. He continued graduate work for another year at Princeton, where he met his wife, Arleen Grace Thorik. Arleen was attending Trenton State College - close enough to Princeton so that they met at a dance.
In 1965, he joined IBM as a systems engineer in
Cranford, NJ. Peter and Arleen were married in 1968. In 1973, their daughter, Valerie, was born. Shortly after, they moved to
Stamford, CT. In 1982, the family moved to Paris for an IBM assignment. Peter relished planning trips, making the most of the family's time in Europe - including learning to ski in the Alps. The family returned to Stamford in 1985, but Peter's international travel continued until he retired from IBM after 36 years as a Business Planning Manager in 2000.
Peter was a long-time member of the congregation at St Francis Episcopal Church in
Stamford, CT, where he served on the vestry. He enjoyed working on the Building & Grounds Committee during the building of the new church. He took pride in decorating the evergreen outside the historic old church for Christmas each year.
Peter was an avid sailor, windsurfer, and kayaker, finding peace and joy on the water. With Valerie as his crew, he sailed his NACRA catamaran "Amazing Grace" in races at the Roton Point Club in Rowayton, CT. He and Arleen loved to travel, taking trips to New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, and St. John (USVI). In later years, Seattle became their main destination as they visited Valerie, her husband Jamie, and their grandsons Evan and Caleb. In 2020, Peter and Arleen made the move to Mercer Island, Washington, where they enjoyed seeing both of their grandsons graduate from high school and head off to college. On Mercer Island, Peter continued his avid reading, taking frequent walks to the local library to check out the latest fiction as well as his favorite magazines. Peter and Arleen enjoyed their walks together in Luther Burbank Park, with views of Lake Washington from the community garden.
Peter Justin is survived by his wife Arleen, his daughter Valerie Millar, son-in-law James Millar, grandsons Evan James and Caleb Justin, brother Richard Weber, and niece Kimberley Silver. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Elizabeth Weber of Newtown, CT.
As we remember Peter, we remember the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "It is not length of life, but depth of life." Peter's life was full. May he rest in peace.
