The world is a little less funny and a lot less interesting with the loss of Peter Armand Winters, who passed away at his home in Sacramento, CA on August 9, 2025. Peter was born on December 2, 1980, in New Bedford, MA and spent much of his early years growing up in East Freetown, MA.
At the young age of 24, Pete decided to pursue new opportunities and relocated to the West Coast landing in Sacramento and put down his roots. He grew the branches of his tree by establishing a broad reaching friend group in California. He was loved by many for his wicked Boston accent, down to earth attitude, and large supportive heart.
Pete found his footing and after 2009 spent most of his free time with the love of his life, Rachel (Fry), along with being a devoted dog dad to his beloved present and past pups, and creating memories with an expansive group of friends. Pete loved the raw energy of punk music and skateboarding, but also found peace and beauty at Lake Tahoe, along with the simple classic fun of a state fair, and bowling.
Peter was a bartender by trade, therapist by default, and had an affinity for sarcasm. Peter was well-known in downtown 'Sac' and worked at a broad spectrum of establishments including True Love Coffee House, Capitol Garage, Badlands, Mercantile, Press Club, Flame Club, Dive Bar, Tallac Lounge, and Round Corner. While working Peter took immense pride in collecting stories, trinkets, and friends.
Peter was kind-hearted, quick-witted, and fiercely independent. He enjoyed making people laugh and pushing both buttons and boundaries. While he could be challenging, those who took the time to talk with him found Pete to be a loyal and genuine soul.
Pete was heartbroken by the loss of his wife, Rachel, last year and we take comfort knowing they are together again. A vast emptiness now dwells in the hearts of his family-especially his parents, William and Germaine; his nine beloved siblings; and the many in-laws, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews who loved him. Traces of him remain in the warmth of his friendships and the gentle companionship of his dogs, Elliott and Norman.
We will leave you with words from Peter, "A man is not measured by his success, but how he treats people, and I never stopped trying."
Please come share a story and celebrate Peter's life with his family on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 4pm, George L. Klumpp's Chapel of Flowers, 2691 Riverside Blvd, Sacramento, 95818. A funeral mass will be held in Massachusetts at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Front Street Animal Shelter in recognition of Peter and Rachel's love for homeless furry friends. It is with the deepest of sympathy that I find myself sharing condolences about
Peter A. Winters. We were, and still are, next door neighbors to Germaine and Bill Winters, and their 10 children. My son Kevin, was friends with Garrett Alves, Taylor Alves and Pete, and they were all great , well behaved kids, until they all became teenagers, when they required more parental oversights as most teenagers do. But they were all great kids, and were a lot of fun to have around.
I didn´t know that Peter had gone to the west coast to live a life that didn´t exist in the small rural environment where we live... most kids went to Red Sox or Patriots games or New York City to see how people lived and do more exciting things. But it doesn´t surprise me at all that Peter decided to try the West Coast. Pete had a yearning to find the things that were calling him to Sacramento, longing for new friends and a different world to explore and give himself new way of living life...
Robert Frost once wrote a poem called "A Road Less Traveled By" , about "two roads diverging in a yellow woods, and I took the one less traveled by" about how you could have taken the path most people do and live a great life, but if you took the path most won´t take a chance doing , your life could have been full of such enriching adventures.
To me, this was the Peter Winters I knew, someone who took a chance to live his best life, and took the road less traveled by, and found the life he wanted.

Peace, Love and Light to you Pete, and to you, Germaine and Bill...

Peter was truly a very special soul; an old soul in so many ways. He happened upon my door shortly after my family and I moved to East Freetown and frankly, he never left. He became a much-loved member of our family. My son, Garrett, considered "Pete" his big brother and my daughter, Taylor, quickly became his good friend and sometimes his partner in crime. They understood each other and accepted each other's quirky habits. They shared a special love for each other that became so evident when, at 17, Taylor was diagnosed with a rare terminal cancer.

Peter never walked away; many did, but not Peter. He was there for all of us and he never treated Taylor like a fragile person. She loved that about him. There were so many things to love about Peter.

In my heart, Peter A. Winters will always have home. May God bless this beautiful man.

With love from his "other mom",
Rhonda Leigh Silvia
