Kuang Wu Yang left us on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on April 1, 1938 in Wuhan, Hupei, China to parents Kufan and Weilu Yang.
With his family, he moved to Taiwan in 1949. There, he finished his middle school, high school and earned a bachelor's degree in architecture from National Chen-Kong University. He came to the States for postgraduate studies in 1961. He earned MS in Structural Engineering from Georgia Tech and Ph. D in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Tennessee in 1970.
After graduation, he moved to Atlanta to work for Portman Architectural and Engineering Company. In the mid 1970's, he joined Parsons, Brinkerhoff/Tudor to oversee various MARTA stations structure design and he was the chief structural engineer for Five Points Station.
In 1992, when the city of Taipei, Taiwan planned to build a rapid transit system, he was invited to consult the development of the structural system. He stayed there for five years, then retired after coming back to Atlanta.
Although Kuang was an engineer, he was also very artistic. He enjoyed photography, watercolor painting and Chinese calligraphy. He loved to read, especially pertaining to history.
Kuang is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rowena Yi-ling Yang, their son Alan T Yang, MD. his sister Venetia Wang (I-che), his brother KC Yang (Paulina) and many nephews and nieces.
We love Kuang immensely and will miss him dearly.
The memorial service to celebrate the life of Kuang Wu Yang will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 20, 2024 prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
