PHEBA KATHERINE "KAY" WESSEL

Age 92, of St. Clair MI, formerly of Frankfort IL, passed away on Friday, May 26th, 2023 at A&J Visions in St. Clair, MI.
Kay was born September 12, 1930 to Mr. William Riley Floyd and Mrs. Florence Tavey (Hawkins) Floyd in Marlborough Missouri (Jackson County). Kay's brother Richard Phillip Floyd passed away in 2004.
Kay grew up in LeRoy Illinois. Graduating from Illinois State University, Normal IL with a Bachelors Degree followed by a Masters Degree. Her first year of student teaching in 1952 was at Holy Trinity High School in Bloomington IL. She taught at Wilmington Township High School in Gardner, IL and retired from Thornton Township High School in Harvey IL.
Kay married her husband Paul Wessel in 1958. They honored their love by being kind, playful, respectful and romantic to one another all the days of their marriage. They shared a love of God, country, family, life, education, music, dancing, theater, travel, gardening, birds, food, sports, exercise and friendships. They were devoted to each other until Paul's death in 2015.
Kay was a beaming light of pure love and joy. To be around her was to feel a warm sense of life and happiness. Her gift was that she shared her glow with anyone she met. Her calmness in making everyday decisions came from a confidence she had because of her faith. She led her life with respect and dignity for herself and towards others, Kay was a perfectionist. She accomplished everything with such grace and playful humor that her perfection was balanced.
A graveside service and interment is scheduled for Thursday, June 1st, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood IL 60421. Please arrive to the cemetery by 9:45 AM. Arrangements by Kurtz Memorial Chapel, Frankfort IL. For information, www.kurtzmemorialchapel.com or 815-806-2225.
