Early in the morning of Friday, July 25th, 2025, Philip Neale Jeffers, 63, passed away unexpectedly. Phil was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania to James Marvin Jeffers and the late Constance Short Jeffers on August 24, 1961.
After being in Air Force JROTC in high school, Phil enlisted in the Air Force and then later joined South Carolina Air National Guard at McEntire JNGB, where he proudly served his country in Desert Shield and Desert Storm as a Technical Sergeant and F-16 mechanic. Phil loved all things aviation and spent years in flying lessons, working towards a pilot license, and skydiving. He was greatly vested in the youth of his community. As a former scout himself, he enjoyed volunteering with Boy Scouts of America as a den leader, Cub Master, and committee member. He also enjoyed volunteering with the SC FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Program. An avid life-long learner and prolific reader, Phil was a member of MENSA. As a young man, he earned his A.S. in Aircraft Technology at the Community College of the Air Force. He later earned his B.A. in History at the University of South Carolina. Phil was one of the owners of Jeffers Handbell Supply, Inc. and enjoyed his time within the handbell community.
At his heart, Phil was a family man, whose life revolved around his wife and son. He showed nothing but love, kindness, and a delightfully quirky sense of humor to anyone he came across. Phil was the kind of man that people called to help, and he always answered. He dove in to learn all that he could about football to support his nephew who was playing. That was the kind of man that Phil was. He was a constant supporter of those who he loved. Phil was an intelligent man with a passion for teaching and helping others.
Phil is survived by his wife, Nancy Elizabeth Jeffers (nee Boykin); his son, Craig Willard Jeffers; father, James M Jeffers; mother-in-law (of the home), Nancy Fant Boykin; his brother, Thomas (Jill) Jeffers; his sister, Pamela Jeffers; brother-in-law, Craig (Kathy) Boykin; sister-in-law Brenda (Shawn) Tarte; nieces and nephews: Andrew Jeffers, Matthew Jeffers, Reed Boykin, Mitch Thompson, Eli Thomes, Sarah Burgess, Josh Tarte, Abby Tarte, and Hank Tarte.
Some say "The mountains are calling, and I must go" while others heed the siren lure of the sea. Phil heard the sound of the sky.
A memorial service to honor the life of Philip Neale Jeffers will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, 1112 Fair Street, Camden. Visitation will be on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 6-7:30 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home in Camden.
Donations can be made in his honor to the KC Robotics team at PO Box 421, Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078 or Boy Scouts Troop 316 at CO Lugoff Optimus Club, PO Box 163 Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078.
