Philip C. O'Toole died peacefully at home in Sarasota, FL on January 28, 2023, at the age of 98.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sunshine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Phil served in Italy with the 15th Air Force in World War II. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He attended NYU and Rutgers and was the chief inspector and superintendent of quality control for a large NYC engineering firm, and was the author of a manual on inspection and quality control.
Later, Phil owned a large liquor store and soda distributorship in Park Ridge, NJ. He then became a realtor and appraiser in NJ, where he owned two real estate offices, one in Butler-Kinnelon and one in Wayne. Phil moved to Sarasota in 1981 where he was a realtor.
He was on the advisory board of a North Jersey bank; was vice-president of the Butler-Kinnelon Kiwanis Club, and was a member of the Elks in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ for over 74 years.
Phil enjoyed traveling, and traveled to almost 100 countries and throughout the United States.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 60 years Rose Marie O'Toole (nee Urfer); a special niece, Deidre Heelan of Littleton, CO, as well as dear nieces Collette, Pauline and Anna, and nephews Thomas, Paul, John, Jr., Darby and John D.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers with Take Care and Tidewell Hospice for their compassionate care.
Visitation is from 2-4 pm on Monday, February 13th at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Gulf Gate Chapel, 6903 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, February 14th at 11:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5394 Midnight Pass Rd, Sarasota. Burial will be at the Sarasota VA National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church Building Fund, 5394 Midnight Pass Rd., Sarasota, FL 34242 or The Salvation Army, PO Box 2792, Sarasota, FL 34230.
