On August 6, 2023, Philip Wayne Onstott passed away at the age of 78. Philip began his life on February 11, 1945 at the tail end of WWII, greeted by a boisterous family. His late parents, Don and Helen (Baronick) Onstott, raised Philip and his 15 siblings in the Mt. Pleasant area during the Post War boom. It was during these formative years that Philip learned and honed his everyman skills, working with his hands.
Following High School, Philip served his country in the Army, perfecting his handy skills and the ability to work well with others, talents he learned in his large family. Eventually he married his true love, Karen, in 1967 and together they raised their two children, Jim and Dawn.
Philip helped to support his little unit by helping family and friends repair or troubleshoot whatever and whenever needed. In his downtime, Philip found joy in the outdoors fishing for a prize catch or patiently waiting for the big buck. His favorite times to be in the wild were during his trips to Alaska with Karen where they hunted and fished together.
In 2019, Philip became a widower after 56 years of marriage to his beloved wife. He took solace in the family they both were very close to and stayed actively involved with them, especially following the grandchildren and their various sports and activities. Philip will be missed greatly.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Jerzi Homant; sister, Sharron Horning and brothers, Terry, Stanley, Ken, and Walter Onstott.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jim Onstott and Dawn (John) Wernette; grandchildren, Nicole (Kezz) Karcher, Courtney (Alex) Homant; Tosti (Bryan) Dutcher, and John (Lauren) Wernette; great-grandchildren, Lily, Jax, Thea, Derby, Winston, Brantley, Michael, and Scout; sisters, Sandra Manley, Cindy Smith, Kathy Spiris, and Patsy Onstott and brothers, Norman, Ron, Dick, Dennis, and Greg Onstott.
