Philip Henry Ramsay, age 81, of Springettsbury Township, York,PA passed away January 1, 2025 at Wellspan York Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy Rauhauser Ramsay, whom he married May 19, 1967 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, York, PA. They most recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Philip was a 1962 graduate of York Suburban Senior High School where he participated in band and student senate. In football he was a York County all conference center. After graduation in 1964 from what was then York Junior College, Phil furthered his education through additional college classes; as well as, courses offered through his employer. Phil spent most of his career working for Caterpillar Inc, where he was a manufacturing supervisor for most of his 30 years with the company, retiring in 1999. Phil became the shipping receiving supervisor at the end of his career, shipping everything out of the York plants to new plants built in the South. During his early career at Caterpillar, Phil also volunteered to help with Junior Achievement.
For six years Mr. Ramsay served in the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania, Company D First Squadron 104th Armored Cavalry where he was a tank commander and reached the level of staff sergeant.
In his early married life Phil had been a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a Jr. high youth fellowship advisor and as head usher.
A devoted father, Phil could often be found in the backyard when his kids were little, building a treehouse or turning the yard into a miniature ice rink. He enjoyed the Thursday golf group, spending time in the mountains at the cabin, and flying both
planes and ultralights. In his later years Phil enjoyed observing birds, especially along
the Susquehanna River, and going for scenic drives with his beloved wife Nancy.
Phil was a member of the American Legion Pleasureville Post 799, and the York
History Center.
Born March 6, 1943 in York, PA, Philip was the son of William H. Ramsay and Mabel (Manifold) Ramsay Strawbridge, both deceased. Mr. Ramsay was also the stepson of the late Donald Strawbridge and was predeceased by four aunts and four
uncles.
Besides his wife Nancy, he is survived by his son Philip Patrick Ramsay of
York, PA; his daughter Amanda C. Ramsay of Aspen, CO; a sister Joyce Sweigart
(husband Michael) of Millerstown, PA; a sister-in-law Brenda L. Ammerman (husband
Robert) of Columbus, GA; niece Heather Sweigart Wilker (husband Nathaniel);
nephews, Philip Sweigart, Jeffrey Ammerman, Scott Ammerman, and Todd Ammerman
(wife Janette); four grand nephews and five grand nieces.
A private family burial will take place at Mount Rose Cemetery in York, PA.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Ramsay wished for those planning an expression of sympathy to
