Frances Dewees Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc. - Dallastown on Feb. 11, 2026.
Frances Eileen (Morrison) Dewees, 89, of York, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and family devotion. Born on September 5, 1936, in Delaware County, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Alice (Leflar) Morrison .

A graduate of Eddystone High School, Frances was a friendly and familiar face in her community throughout her working life. She spent time working at Hills Department Store and Weis Markets, but she truly found her calling among books. She served as a librarian at Eastern York High School and, in her spare time, found great joy volunteering at the Kreutz Creek Library.

Frances had a vibrant spirit and loved to stay active. She enjoyed a spirited game of Canasta and looked forward to playing Bingo with her best friend, Brenda Biedelman.

Despite her busy life, Frances's heart was always with her family and the outdoors. Her favorite memories were made under the open sky-whether she was camping with her family, fishing out on the boat, or visiting her beloved Chincoteague Island.

Above all, Frances was the matriarch and biggest cheerleader of her family. She loved nothing more than watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. Win or lose, she was always there on the sidelines as their number one fan.

A service to celebrate Frances's life will be held on February 14, 2026 at Pleasant View Church (10384 Winterstown Rd, Red Lion, PA 17356). A viewing for friends and family will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service.

Frances is survived by her children: Cynthia Kuhns (and husband Ed), Doug Dewees (and wife Lisa), and Patricia Yohe. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her cousin, Dorothy Collins, whom she loved and cherished like a sister.

She was reunited in death with her husband, James Dewees; her three sons, Stephen, Timothy, and Mark Dewees; her grandsons, Justin and Ryan; and her great-grandson, Dakota.
