Helke Funeral Home and Cremation ServicePhilip G Roth passed away on July 18, 2025, at the age of 68. He was born August 24, 1956, to George Jr and Regina (Budzynski) Roth in Wausau.
Phil led a simple life and somewhat stubbornly avoided computers, smartphones, credit cards and social gatherings. To him, a great day in his retired life was a morning coffee at the R-Store by the Courthouse, scratching off a few lottery tickets, and watching or listening to the Brewers, Bucks, Badgers, or Packers. Those who knew him best found him to be hard working, loyal, and willing to lend a hand or a few bucks to those in need.
Phil worked for many years at the Marathon County Courthouse in the Maintenance Department and was proud to be able to repair or build just about anything as part of his job.
He is survived by a son, Isaiah, a sister, Georgie Merbach, and twin brother, Pete (Kathy), along with a niece, nephews, and cousins. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother-in-law, Dennis Merbach, nephews, David and Larry Trittin, and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
A celebration of Phil’s life will be held at Noon on August 15th with a funeral Mass at St Anne’s Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Lindner presiding. Visitation will start 1 hour prior to the Mass.
Phil’s cremated remains will be placed next to his parents at Pine Grove Cemetery.
