Phillip Don Black, 80 years young, died in Clovis, NM, on September 19, 2025. Phil was born in Clovis on February 4, 1945. He attended school in Clovis but graduated from Tierra Amarilla High School in Tierra Amarilla, NM. He initially worked as a ranch foreman and went on to many jobs, including truck driving and a stint in the Navy. Later he started his career as a plumber and HVAC specialist, owning B&J Plumbing & Heating. After many years of service to the community with his business, he was able to repurpose his handy skills for other adventures in co-managing several Best Western motels in Bryce Canyon and Beaver, UT, and Fallon, NV, before returning to his hometown. He enjoyed the great outdoors-collecting rocks, fishing, and camping, even spending several summers managing campgrounds. Phil was a longtime member of the Rotary Club and Central Baptist Church.
Phil is survived by his wife, Eldina Collins; 4 children - Carl (Krystal) Black II, of Enid, OK, Justin (Cindy) Black, of Los Alamos, NM, Breanne (Michael) Clair, of Chatham, IL, and Ben (Kara) Black, of Litchfield, IL; plentiful grandchildren (Carl, Elizabeth, Hannah, Emmilia, Logan, Wyatt, Julia, Brody, Jasper, Silas, Jake, Wes, Kyla, Liam, and BreAnna); and one great-granddaughter, Charlie. He is preceded in death by his parents (Frank Black and Frankie Greenlee) and sister, Darlene Feviou.
