Funeral services for Phillip Hale, 82, of Chandler, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at West Lake Baptist Church, with Bro. Lee Evans officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the church. Mr. Hale will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at Chandler Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Hale passed away on January 23, 2026, in Tyler.
Phillip Lee Hale was born on February 22, 1943, in
Anna, Texas, the son of Karl Sanstrome Hale and Maude Gertrude (Brimer) Hale. He graduated from Anna High School in 1961 and from the University of North Texas in 1966. Phillip worked from 1967 to 1981 as a banker at Chandler State Bank, followed by several years in real estate. In 1986, he began working for the State of Texas as a parole officer, retiring in 2005. Phillip loved spending time with his grandsons, traveling, gardening, and photography. His life was centered on faith and family. He was an approximately 25-year member of West Lake Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir, volunteering with EPIC Kids' Ministry, supporting the West Lake and East Texas Food Bank, and participating in Night in Bethlehem, where he faithfully portrayed a shepherd for many years. He was a loyal friend to all who knew him and was well loved in his community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Maude; his first wife, Carolyn Ann (Walker) Hale; his brother, Robbie Hale, who died at age two; his sister, Sally Jo Bass; and his brother, Clyde Hale.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Gail Hale of Chandler; his children, Jeffery Karl Hale and wife Kari Rae of Longview and Jennifer Ann Lackey and husband Scott of Tyler; his stepchildren, Lara Kaye Cawthon and husband Joseph of Chandler, Lesley Jean Conway and husband Alan of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Jason Ray Speights of Bellville; his sister, Betty Ann Duke of San Diego, California; his grandchildren, Austin Scott Lackey of North Richland Hills, Carter Lee Lackey of Fort Worth, and Taylor Jeffery Hale of Longview; and his step-grandchildren, Ryan Cawthon and wife Emily and their children, Eleanor and Archer, of Chandler, Rebecca Kaye Garrett and husband Nick of Chandler, Riley Paige Cawthon of Chandler, Natalie Gail Countie and husband Bradley of Jacksonville, Florida, Caroline Joyce Ireland and husband Grant of Tulsa, Oklahoma, William Jacob Conway of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Landon Daniel Speights and Logan Joseph Speights, both of Bellville.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Lackey, Austin Lackey, Carter Lackey, Jason Speights, Joe Cawthon, Ryan Cawthon, Jacob Conway, and Nick Garrett. Honorary pallbearers will be Taylor Hale, Jeffery Hale, Roby Bass, Larry Duke, and Mac McCann.
