Phillip Leon, a native of Santa Cruz and longtime resident of Watsonville, passed away on February 9, 2025. He was 61.
Phillip was born in Santa Cruz on September 2, 1963, to his proud parents William and Michaela Leon. He grew up in a large and loving family, one of seven children. He attended local schools and graduated from Watsonville High School. He went on to work for many years in retail sales, Wilson's Leather and Macy's Department Store to name a few, until his retirement.
He loved to travel, especially to New York and Hawaii, so much so that he called Hawaii home for many years. He eventually came back to the Santa Cruz area and settled in Watsonville where he would remain.
Phillip enjoyed many hobbies, gardening and interior decorating being among his favorites. He loved attending family get-togethers and BBQs, listening to George Michael and "Oldies" music, and sports. He was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Giants. He proudly participated in the San Francisco Pride Parade as often as he could. Above all, Phillip loved his mother and was her dedicated caregiver for over 10 years. He was a kind and loving person and his family, and many friends will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his beloved mother Michaela "Mickie" Leon, and his siblings, Debra Keller, Alberta Ceballos, Louie Leon, Bill Leon, and Michael Leon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father William "Willie" M. Leon, and his brother David Leon.
A viewing and rosary will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 5 pm to 9 pm, with the rosary starting at 7 pm.
