Phillip R. Ronczka Sr., 91, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Phillip, was better known as "Corky" and "Roscoe". He served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corp, onboard the USS Roanoke from 1952-1955. After his service in the Marine Corp, he went on to work for Fafnir Bearing then on to CL&P as a maintenance mechanic.
His claim to fame were his annual horseshoe tournaments in the backyard. Rain or shine, his group of friends and family ("the guys") enjoyed their friendly competition while, of course, indulging in great food and drinks!
He spent the last 60 years residing in Newington.
Phil was born on August 31, 1933 to Felix and Helen Ronczka in Nanticoke, PA. He was married to his devoted wife Marie (Hajduk) Ronczka for 65 years. Together they had two children, Sharon (Gary) Pahl of Algonquin, IL and Phillip Ronczka, Jr. (Amy) of Newington along with four grandchildren, Wesley Ronczka of Newington, CT, Amanda Schweer of Brooklyn, NY, Ryan Schweer of Chicago, IL and Stephanie (Craig) Ingalls of Stafford Springs, CT. He also leaves his brother Joseph Ronczka of Newington, CT.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, October 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, CT. I lived next door to Corkey and Joey for about 10 plus years and as a wee lass of about five or six they would let me tag along with them and they would share their miniature cars (which they had a box full) and we would spend hours building roads and running the cars thru the construction we produced. In the 40's gender toys were not shared so it was exciting for me to be able to have two friends who would do that. Never could get them to play dolls. We would build snow forts and have snowball fights when the snow came and they were very gentle to a little squirt who always enjoyed their company. Unfortunately I lost touch with them as I moved on in life. To Joey I remember you always wanted to be a truck driver and I hope that your wish came true. To Corkey's family I send my deepest condolences. Memories.

Marie,
I remember when Phil came on his scooter to visit our Ladies Guild when we were setting up. He was a funny guy. I am very sorry for your loss.
