Phillip A. Zaccagnini, Jr., a retired Lieutenant of the North Providence Fire Dept., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at the age of 85. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Phillip A. Zaccagnini, Sr. and Adda (Baccari) Zaccagnini; and former husband of Nina M. (Pulicelli) Zaccagnini for 50 years.
Phillip was employed as a Police Officer in North Providence before his career as a Fire Fighter with the North Providence Fire Dept., where he retired as a Lieutenant and Chief's Aide. In addition to his public service, Phillip was a restaurant owner and talented chef. He loved cooking, especially at the firehouse. Phillip held the responsibility of running the Our Lady of Grace Church Feast for over 20 years. He also instituted the fundraising dinner for the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in North Providence. Phillip was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bouffard Council, where he was a Grand Knight. He also served as a reservist in the US Coast Guard. Phillip spent the last 20 years in Hobe Sound, Florida, a place he greatly enjoyed.
He was the loving father of Marc A. Zaccagnini, Sr., Michael A. Zaccagnini, Sr., SGT, NPPD, and the late Matthew R. Zaccagnini; cherished grandfather of Marc A. Zaccagnini, Jr., Alec M. Zaccagnini (fiancée, Nicole Barone), Michael A. Zaccagnini, Jr., Angelo R. Zaccagnini, and Lorenzo S. Zaccagnini; great-grandfather of Travis and Anastasia; brother of Joseph Zaccagnini, and the late Alfred Zaccagnini; and uncle of Dina Vincent.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 4-7 pm with a Funeral Service to follow at 7 pm in the Tucker-Quinn Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Rt. 44), Smithfield. His burial will be privately held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Down Syndrome Society of Rhode Island, 100 Washington St., Unit 325, West Warwick, RI 02893.
