Phyllis Whitacre "Whitacre" Dick

Phyllis Whitacre Dick of Winchester, VA, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

Phyllis was born September 9, 1939 in Capon Bridge, WV, daughter of the late Lanzy W. Whitacre. She graduated from John Handley High School in the class of 1958. She worked for FEMA for more than 25 years.

She leaves behind her children, William Dick, Jr. (Jerome) of Beaumont, TX, Kelley Simonelli (Mike) of Winchester, Kyle Gardiner (Wally) of Winchester; and grandchildren, Amanda Yett (Ben), Anthony Simonelli, Christopher Simonelli, Danielle Gardiner, and Andrew Gardiner. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Dick, Sr.; and her brother, Arthur W. Whitacre.

She enjoyed duckpin bowling, gardening, bingo, and going to the casino. Later in life, she became a devoted fan of baseball, spending many happy summer evenings watching games. She looked forward to family trips to the beach with three generations staying at the same house. Phyllis took pride in her grandchildren, and loved being able to watch them grow up into the adults they are today. She was much loved, and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester, VA. A graveside service will take place Friday, February 27, 2026 at 11:00 am at Mount Hebron Cemetery with pastor Kyle Sheeley officiating.
