Phyllis A. Dwyer of Rochester Hills died August 11, 2024. She was 81 years old. Phyllis was born July 11, 1943 in Detroit to parents, Josephine and Pasquale DiIorio.
Phyllis started working at AAA shortly after graduating High School. She then met her husband, got married, had kids, and remained a stay at home mom for 12 years before going back to work at AAA.She worked during the week and then weekends were spent driving kids around to their soccer games. She was a big fan, and made sure that she saw as many games as she could.
She had no real interests outside the home; her 4 boys kept her very busy. She retired from AAA a little early (she wasn't quite 60), and settled into the next phase of her life. By now the boys were out of the house or would be soon.
In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her soap operas. She read books all the time. She still got a newspaper every day to read and then do the crossword and other puzzles to keep her mind sharp. Outside, she liked running errands with her great friend Sheila. The Dollar Store was always a stop that brought a smile to her face, and then lunch at one of their spots.
As she got older her knees and hip gave her problems and slowed her down. The passing of Sheila hit her hard and she didn't venture out too often unless to see her kids or granddaughters.
When she went back to work, one of the things that she did embrace was getting new clothes – not mom clothes, but sharp outfits. Over the years she acquired quite a wardrobe; she always looked great. She wasn't vain, but she always wanted to look good. Even when she wasn't feeling well, she still made her appointment to get her hair done.
One of the things she was often teased about was her devotion to her nails. She could be busy, she could be sick, she said her money was tight she still religiously got her nails done. They were always perfect.
Her granddaughters brought her a great deal of joy. She was thrilled that there would finally be girls in the family that she could see grow up and whose lives she could be a part of.
She had 2 brothers, a husband, 4 boys and 2 male bulldogs. Always men, no women. I think that's why she was so close to her friends Donna and Sheila. And it's why she loved visits or calls from her daughter in-laws.
She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her four sons, Bryon (Patricia), Kevin (Charlene), Patrick, and Andrew, and her two cherished granddaughters, Lilly and Abby. She is also survived by her dear brothers, Philip DiIorio (Bernadette) and Louis DiIorio.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 12 Noon at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1400 Inglewood Avenue, Rochester, MI 48307. Friends may visit beginning at 11:30am.
