Phyllis Avon Young Hargett, 85, of Harrisburg, passed away in her home January 21, 2025. She was born September 4, 1939 in Charlotte, NC, to the late Clayton Young and the late Savannah Wallace Young.
Phyllis was gentle and patient, wise and forgiving. She enjoyed laughter and helped others have fun. She made sure her home was welcoming and warm. Phyllis worked inside and outside the home, and served her community and church. Her greatest love was, and continues to be, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Phyllis was a loving wife and mother. She will be forever loved and greatly missed.
Survivors include her beloved husband of nearly 30 years, Charles Edward Hargett of Harrisburg; sons, Steve and Todd (Heather) Bennett; brother, John (Joyce) Young; sister, Nancy Hawk; step-daughters, Debbie (Terry) Gilmore, and Cindy Hargett; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am – 11:00am, January 29, 2025 in the chapel at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am in the chapel, officiated by Rev. John Harrill. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Mint Hill.
