Phyllis Jean McCoy Hayden returned to Heaven April 30th early in the morning and was received joyfully by many family members waiting there. Born December 8, 1949 in Portsmouth, VA, Phyllis was the oldest of two daughters born to Andrew and Ruth McCoy.

She met Gordon in the 8th grade, and when he agreed to leave the military, she agreed to marry him. They were married on March 12, 1971 in Rantoul, IL. In 1972, they visited Utah for her sister's wedding. During their time in Utah, they were sealed in the Manti Temple and decided they liked Utah so much that they soon made the move permanent. They lived in Highland, Lehi and then made their permanent home in American Fork.

Together they had nine children, which were the joy of her life and her greatest accomplishment. While we are sad to have her gone from this side of the veil, we know Brian and Carol (her children who didn't get to grow up here) are so excited to get some time with her before we are all reunited. Phyllis has 29 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with 2 more she'll send on their way here this summer.

Phyllis was a great student and had a mind for numbers. Early on, she studied finance and worked at Chesapeake City Court right after high school. She then began working at a bank. Mom returned to work first at Allen's Super Save and then at Walmart. She was quickly moved to the finance department where she stayed until she retired. She enjoyed the work but the people she worked with more.

Phyllis is loved and will be missed by many. She was greeted on the other side by her parents, Ruth and Andy McCoy, her in-laws, Nancy and Daniel Hayden Sr., sister Janice, sister-in-law Linda and most importantly her children Brian and Carol. She is survived by her loving husband Gordon, her children Jennifer (David) Harding, Stacie (Chad) Carter, David (Calindy) Hayden, Angela (Casey) Baldwin, Elizabeth Hayden, Nicole (Scott) McIntosh-Ritter, and Robert (Tyson) Hayden, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family wants to thank the nurses and care staff of Canyon Home Health and Hospice and Bellaview Assisted Living for all of their kind and compassionate care for Phyllis. We know that she enjoyed getting to know each of you who cared for her, in particular Barbara, Victoria, and Nicole.

Services will be held at Anderson Mortuary on Saturday, May 3rd at 2PM with a viewing proceeding at 1:15 PM. She will be laid to rest at the American Fork Cemetery until we can be reunited, beside her two children and close to other family.
