Phyllis King Hemingway, 88, of Fayetteville, went to her heavenly home, on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

She was born in Kannapolis, NC on March 6, 1936, to the late Ray and Maggie Janette King. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 27 years, Robert Hemingway; sisters, Betty Walter, Faye Beaver, Linda Kerr, and Polly Melton; and son-in-law, Gary Martin.

Phyllis enjoyed the outdoors and sharing her homemade pimento cheese. An avid Tar Heel fan, she watched all the televised football, baseball, and basketball games. Her greatest joy came from spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Left to cherish Phyllis’s memory are her children, Bob Hemingway, Amy Cannon, Sarah Hallock and husband Gene, Sandra Martin, Barbara Maxwell and husband Clarence; grandchildren, Kelsey King and husband Seth, Tyler Cannon and wife Donna, Jeremy Martin and wife Kendal, Rob Hemingway and wife Summer, Trent Cannon, Emily Martin; great grandchildren, Easton Hemingway, Charlotte Cannon, William Martin; brother, Wilson King and wife Teresa; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family would like to recognize her caregivers, Karen Dobbs and Kimberly Fleming, for their supportive and loving care.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 am on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, officiated by Dennis Long. A visitation will take place immediately following the service. Burial will take place at a date to be determined at Carolina Memorial Park, in Concord, NC.
