On Saturday, September 13, 2025, Phyllis Anderson Hunt passed away in her home in Northbrook, Illinois, surrounded by her three daughters.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1, at 1:00 pm at the Village Presbyterian Church, 1300 Shermer Road, Northbrook.

Phyllis Hunt was born on April 18th, 1928, in Atlanta, Georgia, daughter of Edwin Lamont Anderson and Ella Louis (Ward). She graduated from Birmingham Southern College (BA) and Columbia University (MA). She was a member of the Mortar Board and the professional organizations: Kappa Delta Epsilon, Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Delta. Phyllis married Grover Cleveland Hunt in 1953.

Phyllis Hunt was a passionate teacher and had a lifetime career dedicated to education. She was first appointed as the librarian at Crestwood School (District 28), then at the Northbrook Junior High School and ended her career as a teacher of English and reading at New Trier High School (Northfield & Winnetka). She was a prominent member of the local Northbrook community, taking on leadership roles at the Village Presbyterian Church, where she taught Bible studies, served as an elder, and developed its lending library. Phyllis served as library board president of the Northbrook Public Library, was a Girl Scout leader, volunteered at the Chicago Botanic Garden, was a member of the Northfield Chapter of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Lake Shore Alumni Club of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She loved to travel which she shared with her family, and loved working in her garden.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Edwin Lamont Anderson (2010), and her husband Grover Cleveland Hunt. Phyllis is survived by her three daughters: Katherine Maillet (Jean-Michel) of Paris, France; Karen Wickman (Scott), of Northbrook, IL; and Kristin Catanzaro (Frank) of New York. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Chicago Botanic Garden or the Village Presbyterian Church Northbrook.
