Phyllis J. Jensen

Phyllis J. Jensen, 94, of Momence, IL, died on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on April 29, 1928, in Washington, IN, the daughter of Claude A. Sr. and Rosemary Conlin Foster. She married Ronald L. Jensen on June 27, 1953, in Momence, IL. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2016.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Julie and Bob Tallman of Momence, IL, Jane Jensen of Bourbonnais, IL, and Jennifer and Darin Morse of Lexington, SC. Four grandchildren; Brian and Melissa Tallman, Adam and Catherine Tallman, Megan Morse, and Trent Morse. Four great grandchildren; Evelyn Tallman, Logan Tallman, MJ Tallman and Ava Tallman. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Claude A. Foster, Jr., and Carl J. Foster, and her sister; Margaret C. Batchellor.
Phyllis was a retired music and language arts teacher for the Momence Community School District after teaching 32 years. She graduated Washington High School as valedictorian in 1946 and graduated from Indiana State Teachers College in 1951 where she attended on a trombone scholarship. She majored in music and became a teacher and talented vocalist and pianist. She came to Momence in 1951 and started the music program at Momence building an amazing choral program. Phyllis directed the Chancel Choir at the First United Methodist Church, created the Men's Choir at the church which was a huge goal of hers and which she loved. She also organized and directed the Momence Sesquicentennial Choir. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the business manager for Jensen Bros. Farming. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Momence, IL.
