Obituary published on Legacy.com by Premier Funeral Services - Orem on Mar. 28, 2024.
Phyllis Delores (Calkins) Kelly went home into the loving arms of her heavenly family on March 26, 2024 at age 70. She was born on January 23, 1954 in
Great Falls, Montana to Albert and Goldie (Price) Calkins. She was the 10th of 11 children, 3 brothers and 7 sisters.
Phyllis lived in Great Falls until high school and then lived 2 years in
Kalispell, Montana. She attended Ricks college and BYU where she met her husband, Bruce Elvin Kelly. They were married on November 21, 1975 in the Salt Lake Temple and lived all of their married lives here in
Orem, Utah. They have 5 children, 19 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her sons Brian and Nathan, her parents, and her siblings: Elizabeth Stover, Ruth Cubbage, Lionel Calkins, Sharon Willis, Bonnie Melancon, and Gary Calkins.
She is survived by her husband and her children: Lisa (Sergio) Montes, Jennifer Kelly, and Amy (Matthew) Garner; her daughter-in-law Lisa Quist Kelly; her grandchildren Jacob, Samantha, Amelia, Brooklyn, Sophie, Olivia, Autumn, Tiana, Angel, Ammon, Alexa, Isaac, Caleb, Patrick, Stephen, William, Sariah, Julia, and Erica; her great-grandchildren Theodore, Oliver, and Addison; her siblings Bill Calkins, Beverly Wolford, Linda Brunson, and Karen Winter.
She loved learning, reading, and in her younger years, swimming and camping. She enjoyed helping Bruce in some of his jobs, usually being his secretary. She enjoyed traveling to different states with his work, including Alaska and Hawaii. She also got to travel with him to install carpet in the Tahiti temple.
Phyllis loved the gospel. She served in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple and enjoyed working at the PERC library (Parent Education Resource Center) as well as other odd jobs. She also enjoyed gardening and canning fruit harvested from the family orchard. She would often visit people in the rest home.
Her grandchildren could always count on her to have fresh play dough, crayons, and ice cream in the house. There were good books to read and games to play. She loved to have the family all together as much as she could.
Phyllis lived a humble life. She did not enjoy being the center of attention or in the spot light. She very much disliked anyone being critical of others.
Phyllis loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She had many happy times in her younger years growing up in a large family, out in the country in Great Falls on the banks of the Missouri River. It was here that her 5-year old nephew Randy Cubbage drowned, which incident helped her develop a testimony of Jesus Christ, his grace and forgiveness, and the resurrection that comes through His merits. We miss her very much but are grateful she is enjoying a glorious reunion with her sons and other family members.
We appreciate and are grateful for the love and support given by many of you as our mom struggled through these difficult times.
A viewing will be held on April 1st at 9:00 am with the service to follow at 11:00 am at the Orem Utah Hillcrest Stake Center located at 1450 South 800 East,
Orem, Utah. Interment will take place following the service at the Orem City Cemetery.
