Phyllis Elaine Kenworthy Medford passed away on September 5, 2025, at the age of 94, surrounded by members of her loving family. Phyllis was born on January 23, 1931, to Andrew and Leah Kenworthy. She departed this life in Amarillo, Texas, succumbing to natural causes after a life well lived.
Phyllis spent her early years, alongside her brothers, in Oil Center New Mexico, before moving to Goldsmith Texas. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1949.
While living in Goldsmith she met Fred Medford. The two fell in love and were married on August 20, 1950. They began their married life in Odessa, Texas. In 1961 they moved to
Andrews, Texas, where they continued to raise their family, and created a home filled with love and many happy memories.
Phyllis was able to stay at home with her children until their youngest child started school. Then, in 1968, she went to work at Means Memorial United Methodist Church. In 1971 she started her 20-year career with Andrews County, going to work in the County Attorney's office. She spent many happy years at the Courthouse and remained there until her retirement in 1991. She loved the people she worked for and with and made many lifelong friends while she was there.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Fred, and her two brothers Roff Kenworthy and Joe Don Kenworthy. She is survived by her son Dan Medford and wife Darlene of Houston Texas, son Tim Medford and wife Kay of Amarillo, Texas and daughter Donna Bassham & husband Mark of Midland, Texas; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children who will continue to cherish her memory and uphold the values she instilled in them. Her friendships were many and deep, sustained by her genuine care for and interest in people, and her ability to listen.
She loved all animals and was never without a pet dog or cat, or both! Her latest being her beloved dog Joey, who died just a few months before her. She enjoyed sewing and all types of needlepoint and quilting. She received great pleasure in making quilts for all her children and grandchildren.
But one of her most cherished activities, was spending time sitting on the front porch of the family cabin in the mountains of New Mexico. Some of the happiest times in her life, were when she could share that special "porch time" with her many friends and family over the years. She would always say that spot was "close to heaven"!
Phyllis spent her life filled with grace and compassion for others, and to know her was to love her.
A graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at ten-thirty in the morning at Andrews Old Cemetery with Pastor Walter Thompson and Mr. Mark Bassham officiating.
