Phyllis “Phyl” Long, of Lindsey, 88, passed away October 6, 2025, at Valley View Health Campus in Fremont, Ohio. She was born on August 3, 1937, at home in Fremont, to Roy Allen and Ethel Luella Alice (Morley) Smith. Phyllis was a 1955 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and studied nursing at Toledo University.
In 1956, she married Lawrence P. “Bud” Long at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage before his passing on June 24, 2019.
Phyllis held many jobs over the years, but she focused the majority of her time as a homemaker for her family. She was an avid sewer, and was in fact a 25-year Charter Member of the Fremont Hayes Ohio Star Quilters Guild. She was a huge fan of the Cleveland Guardians, enjoyed gardening, canning food, and kept her mind sharp through avid reading and doing puzzles. Phyllis also had a love of music, the musical Newsies being her absolute favorite.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Lloyd “Pete” (Linda) Long of Elmore, Lori (Ray Nolen) Maynard of Lindsey; grandchildren, Nick Consolo, Tony (Natalie Wertz) Consolo, & Brette (Nate) Ott, Melanie (Jason) Moore, Lisa (Luke Twarek) Long, Suzanne (Ray) Bucalo, & Theresa (Mike) Clinker, Kim (Keith) Zoller, & Andy (Kelly) Maynard, and AJ (Gera) Durbin, Alex (Korrin) Durbin, & Jessica (Cory) Daniels; step-granddaughters, Della Smith and Betty (Mark) Hoffman; 22 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Charles Consolo and Jeff Durbin; sister-in-law, Gloria Smith.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters, LuAnn Consolo and Darla Durbin; brother, Robert Smith; infant brother, Kenneth Smith.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, Ohio, 43431. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
