Phyllis Sue (VanDuyn) Rayl, age 74, of Greenfield, Morristown and Shelbyville, Indiana passed away on November 17, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Sue was born on December 8, 1950 in Shelby Co. to the late Robert V. and Mary E. (Crider) VanDuyn. She was preceded in death in 2021 by her husband of 43 years, A. K. Rayl II.
Four daughters from her first marriage survive. Chris Ann, Shannon Lee, Kerry Beth and Courtney Erin. She is also survived by one sister, two brothers, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Sue attended Hancock Central High School and received her Bachelors degree in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2008. Sue was employed at Major Hospital in Shelbyville for 30 years before retiring in 2012.
She enjoyed volunteering for both her friends and community.
Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery, Morristown, at a later date. There will be no service.
Any donations will be graciously accepted by the Shelbyville Animal Shelter.
