Phyllis Dee was the first-born child of Howard & Florence (Stedman) Topp. She was born April 18, 1936, in Billings, MT. At the age of 4 she moved with her family to ND, settling at Juanita. She attended school in Juanita, and graduated from Juanita High School. For a brief time, she attended Bible College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, but returned to the farm when she became homesick for family.

After returning to the family farm, she took a job in Cooperstown at the Griggs County Hospital. It was during this time she met the man of her dreams; Glenn Slavik. She and Glenn were married on July 10, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Juanita. They made their home in Cooperstown for the next 23 years. Glenn was transferred to Bismarck in 1978 with Melroe, Inc. She was married to Glenn for 29 years, and this union was blessed with 4 children. They had just started to enjoy their empty nest together when he was diagnosed with cancer and passed in 1984.

On June 28, 1986, God once again smiled on Phyllis and she was joined in marriage to Robert Schlittenhart at the Evangel Temple Church in Bismarck. They were given 36 years together before he passed in 2022.

Phyllis was always a hard worker. It started on the farm when she was the "hired hand" for her dad. She loved being outside doing the work that needs to be done when on a farm and raising cattle. This desire to work continued into her married life where she was a nurse's aide at the hospital and nursing home in Cooperstown once the children were all in school. Upon moving to Bismarck, she eventually worked for the Thrifty Scot Motel, and the Royal Fork where she will be remembered by the customers for her sunny outlook, and by her employers for her great work ethic. Around her home she was a dynamo, constantly cleaning and even climbing ladders to wash walls twice a year at the age of 82.

Phyllis was lovingly teased by Bob that she was like Martha in the Bible, always working and serving others before herself. She loved to entertain, and her family was some of her favorite guests, along with many friends from Bismarck and Hazelton where their second home was.

Phyllis loved to travel and went on many family vacations with Glenn and the children. She and Bob took many car trips, as well as a few bus tours during their time together. She was fortunate that her sister was her best friend and they traveled well together, also. She was a great prayer warrior and never forgot if she told someone she would pray for them. She was an avid reader, whether it was a book or the newspaper. She would gladly talk politics and current events with anyone who voiced an opinion.

She will be missed by her children from her marriage with Glenn: Robin (Mary Jo) Slavik, Fargo, Tammy (Rob) Carlson, Rick (Vicki) Slavik, Penny (Richard) Williams all of Bismarck. One of Glenn's sisters survives Phyllis, Darlene Wendt. She is survived by her grandchildren, Nicole Slavik, Jessica (Seth) Pasco, Hannah (Alayna) Carlson, Jackson Carlson, Sarah (Dan) Owens, Allison (Payton) Berger, Stephanie (Kyle) Paul, and Margaret Pollock; and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including one special nephew Chad (Deb) Griffey, Moorhead, MN. She is survived by many friends, and she leaves to mourn her passing her special friend, Jo Ellingson. She is also survived by Bob's three sons, Steve, David, and Mark Schlittenhart, along with their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Glenn and Bob; her sister, Carol and husband Gaylon Griffey; two nieces and two nephews, three sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law, and special mother-in-law, Hilda Schlittenhart; as well as Glenn's parents.

She will be buried beside Glenn at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Assoc, Alzheimer's Association, 600 South 2nd St, Suite 202, Bismarck, ND, 58504, a favorite Memory Care Unit, or charity of your choice.
