Phyllis Lee Smith,(nee Toth) 80, of Garfield NJ, passed away on Thursday Sept 25, 2025 after a short illness. Born in Tennessee, she was raised in Passaic and lived in Garfield before relocating to PA last year. A parishioner of St. Johnthe Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, Passaic NJ. Phyllis worked for the Passaic Phone company and in retail at Two-Guys and the Bergen Transportation in Hackensack for many years before retiring 17 years ago.

Phyllis had 2 great loves in life, her love for her family and her love of the outdoors. She is survived by her beloved children Michael J Chanda and his wife Monica of Manahawkin, NJ, James P Chanda and his wife Dalia, of North Wales, PA, Michael E Smith of Roanoke, VA, and Rebecca A Noga and her husband Eric of Dingmans Ferry, PA, and her grandchildren Koryn and Michael Chanda Jr., Robert and Kara Ryan, Gabriella and Emilia and Zachariah Chanda, Regina Smith, Joseph and Ashley Manzo, Trevor and Johnny, and her dear roommate/friend Dan Greco of 20+ years and many cousins!

She was predeceased by her beloved daughters Doreen Chanda, and Susan Smith. Her parents John and Ann Toth, and her aunt Anna Toth, as well as her sister Joan Blake.

Funeral Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 10 AM with visiting beginning at 9AM at St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, 170 Lexington Ave., Passaic. Interment, East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.

Arrangements under the direction of the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton
