Phyllis Starr
Phyllis Starr, a beloved member of the Roswell community, passed away on November 29, 2023, in her hometown, surrounded by her loved ones. Her 82 years of life were marked by an unwavering dedication to serving others, her deep faith, and her close-knit family ties.
Phyllis was born on June 18, 1941, in Roswell, New Mexico to a large, boisterous family, where the bonds of love were strongly formed. She carried the warmth of her upbringing throughout her life, always keeping her family at the center of her heart. She was a constant companion and caretaker to her mother for many years. Phyllis also was a devoted mother to her three children, and she took immense pride in their happiness and accomplishments. She found immeasurable joy in watching her family grow to include her children’s spouses, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
Phyllis worked more than fifty years as a school secretary and administrative professional. She had a genuine passion for helping and supporting others through her work, and she truly thrived when she had the opportunity to make a positive impact on those around her.
Alongside her professional career, Phyllis was an ardent volunteer. She cherished causes such as hospice care, the public library, and mental health organizations, selflessly giving her time and energy to support these vital institutions. Her contributions brought comfort and solace to the terminally ill, promoted the love of reading, and advocated for mental health awareness and support. Phyllis’s commitment to these causes exemplified her dedication to helping those in need.
Phyllis’s Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life. Guided by the teachings of her religion, she lived with love, compassion, and deep-rooted values. Matthew 25:23 captures the essence of Phyllis’s life: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Phyllis’s loved ones are comforted knowing that she will rest in eternal peace.
Funeral arrangements have been kept private by her family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift in her name to a local hospice organization or the Friends of the Roswell Public Library.
