Phyllis Welsh Trail
June 27, 1932-October 4th, 2025
Phyllis Welsh Trail passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on October 4th, 2025. She was a loving mother and wife and will be missed by family and friends alike. She was a proud resident of Blawnox, PA and a life-long member of St. Edward's Church.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Walter J. Trail, her daughter Francine Greene (Pete), and her son-in-law Brett Schoenecker.
Phyllis is survived by four of her five children and spouses: Phyllis (Jim) Stehle, Walter (Claudia) Trail, Jeannine Schoenecker, son-in-law Pete Greene and Michele (Todd) Washing. She was the proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Maureen (Chris) Bobish, Nathan (Andrea Massa) Stehle, Joslynn Trail, Wesley (Kari) Greene, PJ (Paige) Greene, Sydney (Weston) Washing-Lingo, J.T. Washing and Ryan Washing. Her great-grandchildren, Seth and Molly Bobish, were the apples of her eye. Phyllis leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. She will especially be missed by her godchild Laura Jean McLaughlin.
Phyllis and Walt raised their family in Blawnox, on Center Avenue and their home was constantly filled with the sounds of laughter and play from their children and the neighborhood kids too. Many will remember the pool in the backyard and Mom coming out on the porch to yell us home for dinner. She later started another tradition with "kids' vacation" for the grandchildren. Another highlight of the summer was the annual family reunion picnic where Mom kept up her connections with the many cousins in the extended family. She was like a second mother to them.
Phyllis volunteered for many organizations over the years, earlier on at the St. Edward's Women's Club and later at Meals and Wheels. She was a Eucharistic minister, part of the rosary group that prayed for deceased members of the parish and volunteered as a poll worker for the borough during elections.
Mom was an expert seamstress, making many clothes for her children and grandchildren, staying up late into the night finishing matching outfits for her girls for holidays such as Easter. (Walt mercifully escaped that.) She also created quilts and window treatments for her children's homes. Earlier in her marriage she filmed home movies; later this evolved into "porch pictures" on the steps of 937 at the end of each visit. Mom was an excellent cook and could feed a crowd. She also enjoyed playing cards and watching football with her family and friends.
We hope that you will remember Mom as the vibrant, social person that she was, and as a woman of very strong faith that she lived throughout her life. Rest easy Mom, you left a great legacy.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her memory to Concordia of Fox Chapel (931 Route 910 Cheswick, PA 15024), Aspinwall Meals on Wheels (450 Walnut Street, Pittsburgh, PA
15238), or the charity of your choice.
