Obituary of Phyllis (Carusone) Twarog
EAST GREENBUSH –
Phyllis (Carusone) Twarog of East Greenbush, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
Phyllis was born in Albany, NY, to the late Nunzio Carusone and Katherine Maffeo. She is predeceased by her late husbands: Eugene Twarog, William Coogan and Charles Rodgers as well as her brother Leonard (Susan) Carusone.
Phyllis worked for the Knickerbocker News/Albany Times Union in the 1960s, after that, as secretary for the Electrical Contractors Union in Latham.
In 1974 she left the workforce to raise her younger children. She became active in her community as a Cub Scout leader and volunteer at the Egg in Albany. She was an active member in the Home Bureau organization. In 2011 became a member of the Castleton Senior Citizens serving as secretary for many years.
Mom was the heart of our family and the guiding light who was always there with a listening ear and sage advice. The telephone line was always busy. Her kindness and warmth filled the room, where you felt safe to share your worries, dreams, and joys.
Known for her creativity, Phyllis had a talent for crafting that brought beauty and joy to those around her. She could transform simple materials into something magical, and each piece she made held a part of her heart.
She was a storyteller at heart, with a talent for creative writing. If you needed a poem or something creative, Mom's clever words wove humor, insight, and inspiration.
We will miss her laughter, her warmth, and her sense of humor.
She is survived by her sister Katherine Gallagher, her children Nancy (Roger) LaPorta, Susan (Larry) Robetoy, Richard (Lisa) Coogan and Michael (Joanne) Coogan, as well as her grandchildren Christopher, Nicholas, Matthew, Andrea, Jesse, Justin, Ashley, Christina, Jonathan and Ava; her 14 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private at the discretion of the family.
Our family would like to express our deep appreciation and gratitude to the people of The Community Hospice, particularly Ryan, Steve, Wendy, Lacy and Jamie for their compassion and support. Donations in Phyllis' memory can be made to The Community Hospice on their website or by mail to 310 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
