Richard's photographic career spanned print media, feature films, television and teaching. Cinematographer and stills photographer, Richard Twarog had over 40 years professional experience.
Richard began training as a cinematographer at the prestigious U.S. Army Pictorial Center in New York City. He was a production cameraman in Viet Nam. While still in the Army Richard worked on 12 episodes of early Sesame Street and filmed five documentaries. When Richard left the Army he signed on with Polaroid Corporation in 1969 to research cinematic applications for their new products. While there he crossed paths with Ansel Adams conducting his own research at Polaroid. After-work socializing led to private lessons in black-and-white printing from Ansel. One of Richard's most enjoyable research projects at Polaroid was perfecting the huge view camera designed to create 20" X 24" instant photographs.
Richard's artwork is in corporate and private collections and was exhibited in art museums in the UK, Europe, Japan, and the US. He was the recipient of over a dozen major international and national awards for cinematography, stills photography and art direction. He was a member of the prestigious International Cinematographers Guild Local 600 Hollywood.
Upon retirement Richard and his wife Molly moved from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Salem, Oregon. Finally, Richard wrote magazine articles on fly fishing and authored two books, San Juan River: A Fly Angler's Journal and Atlantic Salmon Flies: Postcards from Rivers Past.
Richard is survived by Molly Twarog and children Richard, Rebecca, and Sacha.
