ROCKFORD - Phyllis Jeraldine Wessner, 75, of Rockford and formerly of Cherry Valley, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 24, 1949, to Earnest and Hazel (Henderson) Suthrlen in Cherry Valley, Arkansas, Phyllis was a proud graduate of Harrisburg High School, Class of 1967.
In 1967, she married her soulmate, Tommie Wessner, and together they shared 56 beautiful years of love, devotion, and family. Their life together was filled with laughter and joy, raising four daughters who were her greatest pride and joy.
Phyllis dedicated her life to caring for others, embodying compassion, strength, and selflessness. She wore many hats, but none as gracefully as that of a caregiver. Her home was a sanctuary of love, warmth, and comfort for all who entered. Her unwavering commitment to her family and friends will forever remain a testament to her beautiful soul.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters: Kimberly Wessner, Tammy (Charles) Livingston, Marcey Correa, and Holly (Chad) Fortson. She also leaves behind a cherished legacy through her grandchildren: Brittni (Kyle) Van, Wyntir Tunaley, Harley (Ashlie) Wessner, Mariah Wessner, Christopher Runberg, Austin Livingston (Teressa Henderson), Alexxander Livingston, Travis Runberg, Elijah Correa, and Alyssa Fortson (Dalton Ibarra). Her beloved great-grandchildren include Zayden, Mila, Emmalynn, Sadie, Layla, Alena, Blake, Jayden, Everly, Morgyn, and Dallas.
She is also survived by her siblings: Ernestine (Dennis) Murphy, Howard (Glenda) Suthrlen, Pam Pike, Ricky Suthrlen, and Elizabeth (Terry) Coates, along with many nieces and nephews who were close to her heart.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Hazel Suthrlen; her infant sister; her loving husband, Tommie Wessner; her sister, Greta; her brother-in-law, Pat; and her precious great-granddaughter, Sydney Grace.
Phyllis's life was defined by her enduring love for her family, her strength in the face of challenges, and her endless generosity. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched, inspiring all who knew her to embrace kindness, resilience, and unconditional love.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Monica and Missy for their dedication and kindness, as well as to Don George, a dear friend and former employer whose friendship brought joy to Phyllis. The family also wishes to honor her granddaughter, Wyntir, for her unwavering devotion and caregiving, ensuring Phyllis was surrounded by love in her final years.
A Private Funeral Service will be held at Christenson Funeral Home & Crematory, 925 3rd Ave,
Rockford, IL 61104. Cremation rites have been accorded.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be announced at a later date, to be held at the beloved home Phyllis and Tommie shared. During this gathering, the family will dedicate a special memorial in their honor, ensuring their love and legacy continue to bring people together.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tommie & Phyllis Memorial Garden to honor their memory and the profound impact they made on the lives of those they loved.
