Phyllis A. Woodford, born on November 23, 1948, passed away on June 8, 2025.
Phyllis was born with her twin brother Phillip on November 23, 1948, to the late Walter Baynard II and Anna Alvis Baynard in Green Castle, Indiana. Phyllis is remembered by her loving family, including her daughter, Tina Woodford; her son, Lawrence (Angela) Woodford Jr. She cherished the moments spent with her grandchildren, Ebony, Darius, Trenton, and Isaiah Woodford, who brought immense joy to her life.
Her beloved mother, grandmother and stepmother instilled in her the kind spirit that shaped the woman she became. Being born the only girl with five brothers, the extended family gave her sisters and more brothers to add joy and memories to her childhood.
Phyllis married for the first time just before her 20th birthday and started her family soon after. She knew she would have her hands full and moved quickly to have her daughter potty trained at 9 months so she wouldn’t have to change two sets of diapers! She would tell the story of being in labor for five days with her son, affectionately known as Bim. Both will tell you she loved them for the individuals they grew into as adults. She would speak with pride about Bim being an athlete, husband, father, businessman and mentor. She talked about he and Angie having a house that was not only full of their kids but all their friends too! She loved that they were safe. Phyllis would talk about Tina’s years of service at her job and her retirement while adding titles that weren’t totally factual. She would tell people her daughter was a supervisor, mechanic and a pilot. She said it so much that Tina started telling the same story! Phyllis loved to celebrate, her children, their friends, showing and giving love to all her nieces and nephews, and all the children born to them. She loved to laugh, play and find humor in places people may not look. So, when a chance meeting at Walgreens had her meet and marry for the last time, family knew she had met the man God had for her. They built a life that was full of laughter and joy. Whether you visited or not, if they had a picture of you, you would find it displayed in their home. Phyllis and Phillip both believed everyone had their own moment in time. And she would always make sure you left with something whether it be a meal, pictures or soft money.
After more than 37 ½ years with General Electric, Phyllis retired, leaving behind a powerful example of hard work. Making lifelong friends and encouraging younger generations of new employees.
Her legacy is deeply intertwined with her vibrant personality and varied interests. Phyllis had a passion for teaching, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years, where her kindness and wisdom left a lasting impact on countless lives. Her love for children guided her to sponsor children through the International ChildFund for over 40 years. Just as she loved children, she also had a special place in her heart for seniors. She would often be found taking them to church and grocery shopping afterwards. If you ever saw her looking down, she was searching for a four-leaf clover or a unique rock for her collection. She loved to explore caves though she claimed to be claustrophobic. As an avid fan of Judge Judy, after being introduced to Judge Judy Baby Reels, she created a Facebook page…for one day. Either in person or on the phone she would always leave you with her favorite parting phrase “PEACE”.
Phyllis is also survived by her siblings: Timothy (Pattie) Baynard, Barry (Stephanie) Baynard, Wayne (Iva) Baynard, Patricia (Jerry) Prentice, Frances Smith, Janet Smith, Leon (Helen) Johnson, and Rose Mary (Michael) Clark.
Phyllis is reunited in eternal rest with her parents; her beloved husband, Phillip Bizor; her stepmother, Rosie Baynard; her twin brother, Phillip Anderson Baynard Sr.; and siblings, Walter Baynard III, James “Ricky”(Thomasine)Baynard, Anthony Baynard, Emerson Baynard, and Albert Johnson.
