Polly Melchor Vargas

Polly Melchor Vargas, 92, passed away Friday, June 6, 2025. She was born June 18, 1932 in Nixon, the daughter of Isabel Melchor and Concepcion Hernandez.
Polly Vargas proudly served as a military spouse for over 47 years, supporting her family and country with strength and grace. She was married to Abel Vargas for over 57 years, a partnership marked by love, loyalty, and unwavering support. Polly was an active member of the Red Hat Society, served as captain of the Fulda, Germany Women's Volleyball Club, and held the position of President of the NCO Wives Club. She was a Lifetime Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and shared her heart with the community as an ESOL teacher at Sterling Green Church. Polly was also an avid cheerleader for her children's and grandchildren's sports activities, rarely missing a game and always offering her enthusiastic support from the sidelines.
She is survived by daughters Lucinda Ann Vargas and husband Frank Flores of Katy, Irma Stichter and husband Calvin of Houston and special daughter Dr. Amantha Hill of Miami, Florida; sons Abel Fredrick Vargas Jr. of Temple, OK, Orlando Melchor Vargas and wife Rosa of Wichita Falls,TX; sisters Martha Melchor and Margaret Melchor both of Waelder; brothers Eulogio Melchor, Oscar Melchor and Samuel Melchor all of Waelder and Alonzo Melchor of Cuero. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Abel Vargas, Sr., sisters Nancy Del Gado, Louisa Lopez and Mary Ibarra Gutierrez; brothers Joe Melchor, Isabel Melchor Jr., and Henry Melchor; grandsons Gary Stichter II, Dillon Vargas and George Vargas; granddaughter Ceanna Raquel Vargas and daughter-in-law Pamela Vargas.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with the Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waelder with Reverend Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at the Waelder Community Cemetery. Pallbearers include Steven Lovato, Abel Vargas III, Kellen Vargas, Caleb Dickerson, Diego Abernathy and Kellen "KJ" Vargas Jr. Honorary pallbearers include Ylyna Lovato, Margaret Melchor, Alonzo Melchor, Mya Abernathy and Gary Stichter(dec).
