Raised in a small village in Kerala, India, she attended college in Madras, India, and then married Dr. Govind Balakrishnan. After 10 years of marriage, they moved to the US, where she raised 3 daughters and her husband practiced psychiatry. She became a widow after 49 years of marriage.
Fiercely independent until the end, she lived in her own home and greatly enjoyed socializing with her friends every week. She drove her car, did her own shopping and banking, and she had a loyal and loving group of close friends who were like family to her. She loved to travel with her family and friends, watch a variety of tv shows, sew clothes, and regularly connect with her friends and family around the US and overseas.
She is survived by her daughters, Mini Menon, Malini Balakrishnan (Sanjay), and Maya Puri; and grandchildren, Ananya, Kavya and Vivek.
A Remembrance Ceremony with prayers will be held Friday, December 8 at 10AM at Anthony Funeral Chapel, 2305 Monroe Ave. All who knew her are welcome to come celebrate her wonderful life. The service will also be livestreamed here: https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/9151147021
