Porter "Cleve" Cleveland Carter, of Portage passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born on August 6, 1948, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Porter was the son of Aubrey and Louise (Summus) Carter.
Cleve's journey from those cherished roots in Tennessee to a noteworthy career as a truck driver is a testament to his enduring spirit and dedication. Throughout his life, Cleve exemplified the meaning of Southern charm, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure to meet him. His warm demeanor and friendly nature left a lasting impression on friends and colleagues alike.
In his later years, Cleve found fulfillment working with local greenhouses. He also was a truck driver and on Fire Watch for Pro Services in Portage, Michigan. His gentle personality made every interaction memorable, and he maintained a remarkable ability to make others feel valued and appreciated.
Sporting events were a source of great joy for Cleve, particularly football. He was a devoted follower of Ohio State University, the Green Bay Packers, and Notre Dame football. Not long ago he went with his friends Jeff and Kim Kraft to the legendary Lambeau Field to watch a football game. You could also find Cleve at one of his two favorite breakfast spots Rise n’ Dine in Vicksburg or Uncle Ernie’s in Kalamazoo. He also formed a network of friends from RJ’s Sports Bar, Vicksburg Village Hide-A-Way and Jac’s Cekola’s Pizza.
Cleve's legacy will be remembered with fondness by those whose lives he has touched. He leaves behind a wealth of memories that will continue to bring smiles and warmth to all who knew him. His friendly approach to life and genuine kindness remain a reminder of the impact one individual can have on a community.
Porter was survived by his daughter: Donna Carter-Busey, of TN; two grandchildren: Cameren and Grace Tynes; siblings: Kenneth Carter, Donnie Carter, and Ann Miller.
He was preceded in death by his son: Michael Carter; parents: Aubrey and Louise Carter; and siblings: Ray and Mitch Carter.
Cleve has been cremated, and no services are scheduled.
