Prentice E. "Ben" Baumunk, 95, of Canton, formerly of Forksville, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Gatehouse in Williamsport. Prentice Edward was born March 24, 1929, in Shunk, a son of the late Dudley and Bertha (Morgan) Baumunk. He attended the former Loyalsock/ Estella High School and was a graduate of the class of 1947. On July 10, 1948, Prentice married his soulmate, the former Marjorie Clark. Together they shared 76 years of loving marriage and raised two sons. In his earlier years Ben drove truck, delivering logs and pallets to Downington, PA. He later was employed by his father as a logger in Sullivan County for several years until eventually taking over the family business, Baumunk's Lumber in Forksville, with his brother Charlie. Ben served as co-owner for many years until his retirement.
Prentice was a unique man with a unique name. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. His main joy in life was taking care of his family, especially his beloved Marge and in earlier years loved to go square dancing with.
Prentice leaves behind his wife Marjorie, sons; Garry (Kathy) Baumunk of Canton and Larry (Rheda) Baumunk of Towanda, grandchildren; Ann Bryan, Chad (Janelle) Baumunk, Jay Baumunk, Michael Baumunk and Fiancé Nancy, and Jason (patty) Baumunk, great grandchildren; Logan, Ashely, Ethan, Miles, Kaytee and Kendra, great great grandchildren; Luca and Vincent, siblings; Glenna Edkin of Hillsgrove, Charlie (Ruth) Baumunk of Forskville and Virginia (Bob) Hatch of Lancaster as well as several nieces, nephews and cousin.
Besides his parents, prentice was predeceased by a granddaughter; Janice Baumer, great granddaughter; Vayda Bryan and a brother-in-law; Donald Edkin.
The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Dr. in Canton. A memorial service to celebrate Prentice's life will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Herbert Eby officiating. A private burial will be held in the Forksville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, 57 N. Franklin St. Wilkes Barre, PA or a charity of one's choice in Mr. Baumunk's loving memory.
