Prosper John Vignone, Jr., of Farmington, CT unexpectedly passed away in his home on December 3, 2024, at the age of 79. Prosper, known universally as "Chip", was born in Hartford, CT. He was a graduate of Farmington High School (Class of 1963) and attended Ohio Wesleyan University. Chip was an enlisted Soldier from 1966-1972, during which he proudly served as a Military Intelligence Corporal at U.S. Army Europe Headquarters in Bruges, Belgium. While he worked professionally with a few different businesses, Chip spent the majority of his career with Wagner Ford in Simsbury. He was a consummate salesman and won national sales awards because he loved working with people and genuinely cared about building long-term relationships and serving the needs of his clients.
Golf was a lifelong passion of Chip's. He grew up playing at Buena Vista Golf Course and Wethersfield Country Club and was a member of his high school and college teams. He later played in the men's leagues at Bel Compo and Blue Fox Run, and the senior men's league at Westwoods Golf Course. Paul Pedemonti and Paul Erwin were two of Chip's closest golf companions in recent years. Chip was an accomplished player, winning tournaments at each level from juniors all the way through seniors. Two of his favorite events for the camaraderie and sheer enjoyment were the annual Invitational Four Ball Tournament at Greenfield Country Club in Massachusetts and the Sgt. Felix M. Del Greco, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament. In spite of some health issues, Chip "shot his age" twice this past season. When he wasn't playing golf, he enjoyed partnering with his son, Craig, in weekly setback games at Butterfly Restaurant in West Hartford, his workouts at Valley Fitness in Farmington, and cheering for the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and UCONN Huskies.
Nothing brought Chip more joy than the relationships he had with his family and friends. He set a tremendous example by how kindly he treated everyone he met, and he was a brilliant, selfless caregiver to those in need of help. He leaves behind Susan (Fay) Vignone, his beloved wife of 54 years and is survived by their two children: Prosper Vignone and his wife Alexa of Bronxville, NY and Craig Vignone of Farmington, CT; his six grandchildren, Hannah Vignone and her husband Tim Maginn of Richmond, VA, Shea Vignone of Yarmouth, ME, Prosper (Johnny) Vignone of El Paso, TX, and Charles Barreveld, Emilia Vignone, and Isla Vignone of Bronxville, NY; his two sisters, Leslie Vann and her husband Paul of Tampa, FL and Sue Hunter and her husband Charles of Idaho Falls, ID; as well as his many nieces and nephews in whom he took great pride. He was predeceased by his parents Prosper John Vignone and Phyllis Tryon Vignone.
Special thanks to the Pedemonti Family for all their love and support.
The family will hold visiting hours on Monday, December 9, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, at the Church of Saint Patrick, 110 Main Street, Farmington, CT, followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery, 160 Garden Street, Farmington, CT.
