Pura Rockey Obituary
Pura Rockey, 73, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025. Born on March 10, 1952, in Edroy, Texas, Pura was a cosmetology and barber instructor and owned her own Cosmetology school, before retiring. She lived a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.
A devoted Christian, Pura put God first in all aspects of her life. She was a faithful church member who found joy in Bible studies and loved sharing scriptures with others. Her daily Bible reading was a cornerstone of her routine, and her faith touched everyone she encountered. Known for her generous spirit, Pura delighted in gift-giving, sewing and nurturing her beloved plants. She was a true homebody who cherished family time and wished for even more moments with her loved ones. Her musical tastes reflected her values, enjoying both Christian music and classic country songs.
Those who knew Pura remember her as stern yet disciplined, with a loving heart beneath her particular nature. She took great pride in her appearance and always dressed her best. Healthcare workers fondly recalled her as a "spicy individual" whose vibrant personality left a lasting impression on all who met her.
Pura's legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her unwavering faith, generous heart, and distinctive spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by two daughters, Norma Jean Stephens, husband Bobby Stephens, and Jennifer Jean Kettle, wife Randall Kettle, stepsons, Robert D. Rockey, wife Pamela Needham, and Ronnie D. Rockey, sisters, Soila Mansanales, husband Leroy Mansanales, and Esmeralda Torres, brother Juan D. Garcia, daughter- in-law, Kimberlee Montez-Citizen. Pura had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Rebecca Mendoza and Raul Garcia Sr, husband, Robert L. Rockey, brother, Raul Garcia, Jr., two sisters, Eleanor Perez, and Mary Daisy Casias, her son, Paul Eugene Montez, and stepson Luther Rockey.
A memorial service will be held on July 12, 2025, at Crespo Funeral Home, with a viewing from 10am-12pm and the service from 12-1pm, followed by a procession to Cedarcrest Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
