Purificacion Barron Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home, Inc. - Carrollton Chapel on Dec. 13, 2025.
After 4 hospitalizations in 2025, 53 days at the nursing/rehab center, 3 days in the hospice center, then 50 days back at home in Marietta, 93-year-strong PURIFICACION CAPULONG-BARRON passed away 4:20p Friday, 11/21/25 (just 22 days after her only brother, Emiliano "Gem" Capulong passed Thursday, 10/30/25).

Born 1932 in the barrio of Santa Rita, town of Minalin, and province of Pampanga in the Philippines, as the eldest of two and only daughter of Lucia Nabong Capulong, "Puring" shared her January 24th birthday with her father, Alfonso Enriquez Capulong.

Puring was a dedicated registered nurse who graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Manila (1951). At 22, she traveled to the United States for the first time, to attend St. Louis University, while working at St. Anthony's Hospital. Her travels then took her to New York, back to the Philippines, Pembroke Ontario in Canada, then again to the Philippines.

On a December 1967 flight back to Canada, Puring's plane made a stopover on Wake Island. Having crossed the International Timeline and not sure of the actual day, Puring asked aloud, "What is the date today?," to which a young man named RODRIGO BARRON answered, "It's December 25th...Merry Christmas!" After courting & corresponding, it was Valentine's Day 1968 when "Rod" proposed marriage. Five months later, he married Puring, they moved to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and a year later, she gave birth to their son. After two years, the three of them moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, where Puring taught nursing at Indiana State University. The Barrons lived there for 12 years. Then in 1983, they moved to the Peach State and made a new home in Carrollton, Georgia.

Besides her nursing experience studying, working, and teaching in hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes, Puring administered physical exams for medical insurance prospects, assisted with in-home care patients, and was the director of nursing & part-time administrator at multiple nursing homes around Carrollton and throughout West Georgia.

Puring was a devout Catholic, who attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. She enjoyed spending time with family & friends, traveling, reading, and praying. Puring is survived by her only child, son Joseph Rodney (Pop Culture Collectibles shop owner, North Forsyth Market), daughter-in-law Evelyn Prudencio (NICU secretary, Northside Hospital Atlanta), grandson Evyn Joseph (movie-maker with Rhude House Productions), with whom she had lived for the past 5 years under their care, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews in California, additional relatives in the Philippines, countless friends, and loved ones everywhere!

Sadly Rod passed July 20, 2020 and is buried in the OLPH Church cemetery, where Puring will be laid to rest beside him. May they enjoy eternal peace together in the loving arms of the Lord. Until we meet again, we love & miss you both!

Puring was a warrior and breast cancer survivor. So in lieu of flowers, her family kindly asks that you make a donation to the American Cancer Society in her name - Thank You & God Bless!!
