Rachel S. Heinold, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Born on January 29, 1942, in Smyrna, Delaware, Rachel's life was a testament to her love of family and church, strong work ethic and pursuit of knowledge.
Rachel's early years were spent in the nurturing care of her parents, Joe and Pearl Simpson, both of whom predeceased her. She grew up alongside her siblings: Alberta Mae Sneed (and her late husband Jim) of Melbourne, Florida; Sadie Gerace (and her husband Jack) of Boynton Beach, Florida; Carl Simpson (and his wife Nancy) of Smyrna, Delaware; and Joseph Simpson (and his wife Carol) of Clayton, Delaware. Rachel's brothers Carl and Joseph and sister Sadie preceded her in death.
Rachel leaves behind her sons, Jerry Heinold (and his wife Linda) of Townsend, Delaware, and Jeff Heinold (and his wife Carla) of Port St. Lucie, Florida, her grandchildren, Lynsey Heinold-Edge (and her husband Stephen), Laura Horzelski, Sarah Anderson (and her husband David), Scott Heinold, John Masten, and Amanda Justice (and her husband Chris), as well as her great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Isabella Masten, Alexis and Madison Justice, and Tallulah Edge.
Rachel's professional life was marked by her exceptional service and dedication. She was the proud recipient of the 1982 Award for Outstanding Achievement, an honor bestowed upon her by her peers and signed by Delaware's Secretary of Labor. It was presented by then Governor Pete Dupont in recognition of her "exceptional service above and beyond the requirements of her position in the Division of Unemployment Insurance." Her educational background was diverse, with certificates in nursing, employment compensation, and paralegal studies, reflecting her lifelong love of learning and commitment to her career.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Rachel was known for her hobbies and interests. She found joy in knitting, sewing, dancing, listening to her favorite music, playing songs on her keyboard and delving into the twists and turns of mystery novels. She loved good food and she loved to share, especially her french fries from Checkers!
Rachel's interesting conversations and passionate opinions will be remembered by all who knew her. For example, she had a tough side to which her friends and family would acknowledge, "it's her way or the highway". Conversely, she also had a very caring side. If she truly loved you, she'd say, "I love you dearly!" These were among her last words spoken.
As we say goodbye to Rachel, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey filled with love of family and church, achievement, hard work, pursuit of knowledge and sharing what she had. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as her presence enriched the lives of those around her. She will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
Finally, and most importantly, Rachel will be deeply missed, but we know she is in heaven, because she loved Jesus with all her heart.

I have sweet memories of Aunt Rachel teaching my cousin Linda and I to dance the polka. We were at our family´s farm, with a vinyl polka album on the old hifi, dancing up and down the long living room with our grandparents looking on.
