Rachel Leah Pagel Underwood, age 93, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Life Care Center in Columbia, Tennessee, surrounded by her family.
Rachel Leah Pagel was born on April 12, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Bertha Koone and Amos Alfred Pagel, Sr. She was a graduate of Culleoka Unit School. On February 9, 1950, she married Joe Donald Underwood, and the celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage until his passing in 2007.
She was employed at Weather Tamer and Lowenthal. Rachel volunteered at Heritage Manor for several years.
Rachel was known for her outgoing personality. She loved being with and meeting new people. Rachel loved all of the natural world. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals. During her life, she took in various animals and other wildlife.
She was a member of Bethel Church of Christ.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Carolyn) Underwood of Decatur, AL, Pam (Bill) Mosley of Murfreesboro, TN, Donnie (Sara) Underwood of Columbia, TN, grandchildren, Joey (Chasity) Underwood, Daniel Underwood, Courtney (Brian) Turman, Heather Oliver, Derek (Kristi) Pugh, Levi Pugh, great grandchildren, Carley Pugh Williams, Hayden Pugh, Courtney Osborne, Dylan Osborne, Hannah Pugh Hostetler, Hope Pugh, Zoey Underwood, Riley Underwood, Paisley Underwood, Nicholas Turman, Stephen Turman, Brady Turman, Lucy Turman, Dawson Oliver, Peyton Oliver, Lily Oliver, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Underwood, and siblings, Alfred Pagel, Carolyn Brown, Vernon Pagel, Julius Pagel, Mary Fowler, and Wayne W. Pagel.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Life Care Center, especially Mary Marks and Rema for their exceptional care during her time spent there.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Roberts officiating. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
