Ragene "Spin" Spindler, 89, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Hubbard Care Center in
Hubbard, Iowa.
Ragene was born on September 8, 1935 in New Providence, Iowa. He was the only child of Harry and Emma Spindler. He grew up on the farm northeast of Radcliffe and was a lifelong resident of Radcliffe. Spin attended country school and graduated from Radcliffe High School. He enlisted in the marines at the same time as his friend, Darwin Twedt. They were stationed together and served for two years at Camp Pendleton from 1956-58. He was invited to be part of the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight April 25, 2023 to Washington, D.C. This was a great honor, memory and highlight for him.
Ragene was united in marriage to DelRina Olson on March 31, 1962 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. To this union, three boys were born, Dana, Rory and Scott. Spin and Del raised their boys on a farm south of Radcliffe, until they made the move to town (Radcliffe) in 1993. They enjoyed watching and cheering the boys on in the various sports they participated in during their school years. Ragene was a Northrup King Seed dealer for several years. He farmed up until his health wouldn't allow it a few years ago. This didn't deter him though from sitting in his truck watching to be sure the boys were getting the crops in and out of the field correctly.
Spin greatly enjoyed times spent with friends and it seemed no matter where he went, he would run into someone he knew. He had great memories of snowmobiling, hunting and fishing trips with his friends. Spin and Del also enjoyed many winters during their retirement in Apache Junction, Arizona, along with lifelong friends, Harlan and Patty Hall and Jim and Shirley Hinderaker. They shared great memories with the snowbirds there, along with the memorable vacations and gatherings with their many friends in Radcliffe. Ragene was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, and he and Del were season ticket holders for Hawkeye football games. They looked forward to tailgating and cheering on the Hawkeyes with their boys and families every fall.
He enjoyed being Grandpa to his six grandchildren. He looked forward to attending their activities and sporting events; enjoyed many lunches at the house with them, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes together, and listening to all their adventures (he was never shy to give his disapproval of some of those adventures though). He was very proud of all of them.
Those thankful for the life shared with him are his sons Dana (Tami) Spindler of
Radcliffe, IA, Rory (Kristin) Spindler of
Hubbard, IA, Scott (Sarah) Spindler of
Radcliffe, Iowa; grandchildren Kaitlyn (Cody) Hendrickson, Brittany Spindler, Logan Spindler, Payton Spindler, Tycin Barkema and Josh Spindler; great-grandsons Hank and Oliver Hendrickson; and sister-in-law Romaine Hanson, Spirit Lake, IA, along with several nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Ragene was preceded in death by his wife, Del Rina and parents, Harry and Emma Spindler.
We find comfort in knowing Spin and Del are reunited again and now able to share many more dances together.
