Raimundo Xavier DaSilva

Raimundo Xavier DaSilva, 98, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023, at his son's home in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born in a village near Fortaleza, Brazil on May 24, 1924. He came to the U.S. by way of a freighter, where he worked on board as a cook. He eventually settled in Naugatuck, CT, where he found a job at the Uniroyal Rubber Plant. He was employed there for several years, before leaving to pursue his passion of cooking. He worked in several restaurants in the area, gaining more and more experience in the restaurant industry. In June of 1974, he received his naturalization papers and became a proud citizen of the U.S. Before long, he opened his own pizza restaurant in town and he became very well known for his pizzas and eggplant.
He became a member of the Masonic Lodge Shepherd-Salem #78, while living in Naugatuck and was even installed as Grand Master. His real passion was cooking and gardening. No matter where he lived, he had a vegetable garden. Whenever the Masonic Lodge held a fundraiser, he could be found in the kitchen cooking away. He was a very friendly person, who talked to everyone, no matter where he went. He was well known as 'PaPu' by his family members, which was a Greek word for Grandfather. When he retired, he moved to Pompano Beach, Florida where he remained until his health started declining in early 2021 and he moved to South Carolina with his son and daughter-in-law.
Raimundo is predeceased by his wife, D'Janira DaSilva, granddaughter Katrina Silva, grandson Brian Huard and step-granddaughter Heidi Freel.
He is survived by his son, Raimundo X DaSilva, Jr, daughter-in-law Susie Freel-DaSilva, grandchildren Amanda Turman, Siavon Silva and Sean Huard, step-grandsons Christopher Freel, Timothy Freel, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
To honor Raimundo's memory, we are holding a Celebration of Life on May 21st, 2:00 at the Masonic Lodge, 130 Church St, Naugatuck, Ct.
