Ralph Fredrick Downs, Jr, 86, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on March 14, 1937 to the late Ralph Fredrick Downs, Sr. and Jacqueline Tyler Downs in Speedway, IN.
Ralph graduated from Manual High School in Indianapolis.
He was united in marriage on January 23, 1960 to Anne Theresa Royse at St. Roch's Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Professionally, Ralph was a skilled butcher, a trade that is slowly being lost. Additionally, he taught drafting at a few high schools and served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1960.
Ralph loved to stay busy. He enjoyed participating in many sports such as golf, bowling, fishing, camping and hiking, just to name a few. When he wasn't busy with one of his many hobbies, you would find him watching football and cheering on the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers, participating as a Scout leader or attending The Foresters Club meetings.
However, Ralph enjoyed relaxing too. He found solace sitting on the front porch with his coffee, admiring and talking to the birds or just sitting back and reading the newspaper. He would be happy to show off his collection of coins, hats or steins. He also loved to cook, especially for his family.
Ralph was a loyal, hardworking, humble and faithful man. He loved his family deeply and was not afraid to show it. He was respected my many in the community.
Ralph is survived by his loving daughter, Lisa (Michael) Downs; brother, John Downs; grandchildren, Anthony Royce Puyear, Therese Louis (Chris) Brosmer and Michael Tyler (Mara) Cochran, Skyler Cochran; great grandchildren, Stephenie Brosmer, Keirsten Boylen, Corwyn Brosmer, Lucas Boylen Cochran, Charles Payne Puyear, Ayden Brosmer, Christopher Brosmer, Phoenix Cochran and Zelda Sparks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne Therese Downs; sisters, Kathy Anderson, Sharon Childers; and grandson, Stephen Cochran.
