Ralph Hines Obituary

Ralph W. Hines, 88, of Berrien Springs went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023.

He was born on May 2, 1934, to Raymond and Elizabeth (Reid) Hines in Evergreen Park, Ill.

On April 22, 1982, he married the former Yvette Peuvion, and they have spent 41 loving years together.

A celebration of Ralph's life will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, at Berrien Center Bible Church, 8830 M-140, Berrien Center, MI 49102.

For a more lasting memory, donations in Ralph's name can be made to the American Cancer Society or Berrien Center Bible Church. Ralph will be laid to rest in Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.

Ralph was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.

He graduated from Augustana College, where he met, Ingrid, the mother of his three children. He loved his family and adored spending time with all of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a 35-year resident of Berrien Springs and made a great effort to be part of the community. He served Berrien Township as both trustee and supervisor over the years.

He was a very involved member of his church; serving as a teacher in Sunday school classes as well as mission trips to places like Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Ecuador. Ralph was very adventurous and enjoyed biking, hiking, fishing, running, camping, boating and waterskiing.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Yvette Hines; children: Barb (Matt Minarck) Hines, Bob (Patti) Hines; stepchildren: Christine, Michael (Carolyn); 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel; son-in-law, Darrell; and brothers: Robert, Raymond and Richard Hines.

Arrangements entrusted to the Starks & Menchinger Chapel, Starks Family Funeral Home of St. Joseph, 556-9450. Feel free to share a memory with the family at www.starksfamilyfh.com.

Grampydad was a man of many talents. I remember getting on the boat so many times and watching him ski without a care in the word, watching fireworks on the lake, Christmas celebrations, pictures at the giant rock and with the sleigh and love the memories of eating at the long table surrounded by everyone. Grampydad had a smile that would light up the darkest of rooms and a laugh that was contagious and warming. Some of my fondest memories were watching hummingbirds with him. I think of him every time I see a hummingbird. Your forever in our hearts but we know the only scars now are on the hands that hold you. May you rest in peace. Till we meet again.
