Ralph Bolden Moody, 87, passed away on August 19, 2024, at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC. He was born on May 12, 1937, to the late Noble and Ester Wilson Moody, and was a lifelong resident of Haywood County.
In addition to his parents, Ralph is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Rich Moody; three brothers, Odis Moody, Ed Moody, and Frank Moody; four sisters, Cora Medford, Mildred Baggett, Maude Phillips, and Frances Watts; and one brother-in-law, Jimmy Rogers.
He was a true mountain man and was happiest when outdoors. He enjoyed hunting off Sugar Cove, making many fond memories doing so with his son, Mike. He also loved four-wheeling and fishing, especially at Balsam Lake. He operated the tractors at Barbers Orchards for many years, and later retired from the Town of Waynesville, after devoting several years as a garbage truck driver. He had a soft spot for dogs, and always kept beagles. "Belle" the beagle was especially close to his heart. Ralph liked to relax and listen to bluegrass music when he wasn't adventuring outdoors. Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe were amongst his favorites. He will be sorely missed by many. He is survived by a son, Mike Moody and his life-partner, Kelly Jones; a step-daughter, Wanda; three grandchildren, Michael Keith, and Seth and Alisha Reed; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Tammy Burgess, and her partner, David Hightower who both acted as dedicated caretakers in his final months.
Per Ralph's wishes, no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation at 256 B Industrial Park Dr., Clyde, NC 28786.
