Born on July 12, 1956, in Memphis, TN, Phillip brought a spark of intelligence and kindness to those around him, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Phillip was a man of honor, having proudly served in the U.S. Navy and the Army National Guard. His commitment to serving his country exemplified his strength and dedication, qualities that he carried into his civilian life as well. After his military service, he found a fulfilling career with Consolidated Freightways Corporation, where he worked as a driver.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Phillip was a lifelong learner. He earned an Associate degree in Applied Science from Jackson State Community College and cultivated a deep love for history. Hours spent reading about the past filled him with joy and knowledge, making him a wonderful conversationalist and a repository of fascinating stories. His intelligence and passion for learning were evident to all who engaged with him, leaving many inspired by the depth of his understanding of the world.
Phillip's battle with dementia in his later years was a profound challenge. Following a bout with Covid-19 in March 2024, Phillip faced struggles that he could not overcome. Yet, throughout it all, he remained steadfast in his faith, taking pride in his salvation in Christ Jesus as his Savior. This unwavering belief provided him solace during difficult moments and served as a testament to his resilient spirit.
Phillip is survived by his loving siblings, Rebecca Boals, Steve Nelson, and Lois Ferrell, who will hold dear their shared memories and experiences with him. Also, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ralph and Velma Nelson, and his dear brother, David C. Moore. The bonds of family that Phillip fostered throughout his life will continue to resonate within them as they remember his gentle heart and clever mind.
The legacy that Phillip leaves behind is one marked by love, faith, and a passion for history. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we remember Phillip’s life, we celebrate the moments shared and the knowledge imparted, cherishing the impact he made in his fleeting time with us.
