Rammie "Ray" John Washburn, 48, passed away peacefully at his Lake City home on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Ray was born on September 1, 1976, in Erie to Patricia Ann Dziedzic and Raymond Martin Washburn, Jr.
Ray was a cherished member of the L'Arche Erie community for many years. Ray's early life was one of hardship and adversity. He came to L'Arche at the age of 18, and through friendship and community, Ray was able to grow into a trusting and faithful friend with a forgiving heart. Ray cared deeply for the people in his life, and he made it known to them as often as possible. Ray was open and honest with his emotions and was passionate about being an advocate for himself and for others.
Ray's love extended to friends' families- especially their cats and babies. He was so proud to be "Uncle Ray" and a godfather to many.
Ray was gifted with an incredibly creative and imaginative mind and would talk the ear off anyone that would let him. Whether it be about the Backstreet Boys, a fictional life at Hogwarts, or the history of baseball, Ray had endless stories and knowledge to share. His quick wit, intelligence, and humor impressed his friends every day.
Ray was a deeply spiritual person. His faith was very important to him, and he often spoke of Jesus as a friend. Ray was a proud member of the L'Arche Erie Spiritual Life Team and always looked forward to a weekly "Chat N Chew," where he enjoyed discussions of the Bible and being with friends.
Ray loved living at L'Arche Bethany home. It was there you could find him in his room, watching and managing a Major League Baseball game, with an iced coffee in hand. Ray loved the Pittsburgh Pirates and all things black and yellow. Between innings, Ray enjoyed chatting and spending time with friends at home.
Ray lived a life of unwavering faith and love for others. No matter what life threw at him, he always hit a home run. His selflessness and confidence in himself and his faith had him comforting his friends right up to the end. "Be strong. I'll be in your heart."
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Wednesday at St. George Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
